Chart of Accounts
When opening an AbaNinja account in Switzerland or Liechtenstein, a subset of the 130 most important and most frequently used accounts based on the official Swiss SME chart of accounts is automatically created. These accounts can be individually named.
With paid subscriptions, you can activate additional accounts based on the SME chart of accounts. If you have an account without transactions, you can also import an account plan as a JSON file. If you have an active Abacus ERP connection, you can also import the Abacus chart of accounts. You can also update it later.

Account Suggestions
With the free AbaNinja Starter version, standard account suggestions based on the standard SME chart of accounts are created. These account suggestions are used for automated accounting.
With paid subscriptions, you have a larger degree of customization by creating your own account suggestions. If you also use AbaSalary or AbaClik, you can create corresponding booking suggestions for these.
Foreign Currency Rates
Exchange rates are generally updated automatically. With paid subscriptions, they can also be manually entered.

Reports/Analyses
Journal
With the free AbaNinja Starter version, all automatic postings are visible in the journal. Manual postings can only be made on the account statement with the Starter version.
With paid subscriptions, manual postings can also be recorded directly in the journal. This provides a very simple posting mask for advanced needs.
Further information: How can I record manual postings in the journal?
For the review of the validity of customer (debtors) and supplier invoices (creditors), you have an extensive open items list available with paid subscriptions, which is based directly on figures from the accounting.

Banks and similar service providers often require a balance sheet in addition to data about your company. Such a so-called E-Bilanz can now be downloaded from the balance sheet in the AbaNinja accounting under certain conditions.
When the download is triggered, the data is prepared accordingly and a PDF is generated.
An XML file in the so-called XBRL format is also added as an attachment, which can also be processed by the bank in machine form.
Key figures help you monitor your company finances and provide important benchmarks. With them, you measure business success, compare with companies in the same industry, and monitor business processes (controlling).
To always keep an eye on the business development of your company, the most important key figures are available in real time.
Further information: Which financial key figures and KPI (Key Performance Indicator) are available?
To make it easy for you to bill your VAT, an overview is generated in AbaNinja, which serves as a guide for the official form of the ESTV. In addition to the VAT billing, the control list can be checked to see how the individual figures are composed.

Fiscal Years
In AbaNinja, you can define a custom fiscal year period that does not necessarily have to correspond to the calendar year.
However, due to technical reasons and some dependencies, the following prerequisites and conditions apply.
Prerequisites
- A paid subscription or a connection to an Abacus financial accounting (Abacus Treuhänder).
Conditions / Information
- The start date is always the first day of a month (e.g., 01.02.2023).
- The end date is always the last day of a month (e.g., 30.04.2023).
- In a calendar year, two fiscal years cannot begin. In a calendar year, one fiscal year always ends and another one starts.
- For example: 01.01.2022 to 30.06.2022 and from 01.07.2022 to XY is not possible.
- The end date can only be changed for the last fiscal year.
- For example: Open fiscal years 2020, 2021 and 2022. Only for the fiscal year 2022 can the end date be changed.
- When a new fiscal year is opened, it is initially set up from the end date of the previous fiscal year plus +12 months.
- For example: Current fiscal year end date 31.01.2022 / New fiscal year period 01.02.2022 to 31.01.2023.
- It is not possible to shorten a fiscal year if there are already entries in the "to be shortened period".
- For example: Existing fiscal year 01.02.2022 to 30.04.2023. Entries have already been made for April 2023. The end date cannot be shortened to 31.03.2023.
- This adjustment has no effect on the VAT periods, which are still based on the calendar year.
If a fiscal year is still active or open, there is the option to take over the balances of the previous year. This action can be performed multiple times.
Additional Functionality
Own email sender
Emails are sent in AbaNinja by default with the company name as the sender name, the sender address noreply@abaninja.ch and the company email as the reply-to address.
With a paid subscription, the sender address noreply@abaninja.ch can be changed to your own email address. The design of the email can also be adjusted. For example, the size of the logo can be set or various colors can be set.

AbaNinja provides an API to programmatically combine AbaNinja with any applications. For example, you can connect a branch software without its own invoicing or accounting to AbaNinja.
In customer documents such as offers, orders, invoices, etc., a document trail is now displayed showing how the various customer documents are related. For example, it is immediately apparent from which offer the corresponding invoice was created and whether there is still a delivery note or order.
Abacus Financial Accounting Integration
The simultaneous use of a paid subscription and the connection to the Abacus financial accounting is only conditionally useful, unless you want to use the API connection (addresses, invoices, etc.). If you have a connection to the Abacus financial accounting, the same functions of the extended accounting are activated in AbaNinja, except for the API connection.
When connected, the Abacus financial accounting becomes the leading accounting system. For this reason, the balance sheet, profit and loss account, key figures and VAT return are hidden in AbaNinja in this case.
